The Inspiration Behind Snugabugz Stay-On Socks and Stay-On Booties

Our Story

Hi, I’m Dervla, the founder of Snugabugz, and I'd love to share our story with you. As a mama to three little ones, the inspiration for Snugabugz began with my own experiences.

The Problem with Baby Socks

When my first son DJ was born, I loved dressing him in the cute outfits we received as baby shower and new baby gifts. However, no matter what I did, I could not find any socks or booties that would stay on his little feet. I tried various well-known brands from high street stores, but nothing worked. DJ had long legs (not from my side unfortunately!) which meant his legs didn’t fit in the footed baby grows so these weren’t an option for us. I spent my days readjusting his socks, only to find them scattered around the house, in the buggy, cot, and car seat—everywhere except his feet! It was so frustrating. 

When my third child Max was born, I was again faced with the same issue. One cold November day, while out for a walk with Max in the baby carrier, I noticed his socks had disappeared again, leaving his feet exposed to the freezing temperatures. As a result, he caught a cold, and I felt incredibly guilty for not keeping his feet warm. That was the final straw. I knew there had to be other parents facing the same problem. I decided to solve this issue once and for all.

The Design Process

With a background in product development, I set out to create a solution. I spent the past year researching baby feet and socks and designing a special type of baby sock and a special design of baby bootie that actually stay on baby’s feet.

Rigorous Testing and Development

After a long design process with multiple sample rounds and rigorous testing by a team of very active babies, we developed a unique design that ensures our socks and booties stay on babies feet.

Organic and Baby Safe Materials

Our socks and booties are crafted from GOTS-certified organic cotton and are OEKO-TEX 100 certified, ensuring they are safe for your baby's sensitive skin. They feature non-slip soles, enabling babies to safely explore the world around them. The seamless toe construction eliminates annoying seams that can irritate babies' toes.

Innovative Stay On Bootie Design

Our infant booties boast an easy on/off design for parents, an adjustable 3-snap closure, and a soft, roomy fit that supports the foot’s natural development.

Launch

We launched our stay on booties at the Pregnancy and Baby Fair in March 2024, where they received an overwhelmingly positive reception. At peak times, we sold a pair of booties every minute!

At Snugabugz, we prioritize people and the planet. We are dedicated to eco-friendly, sustainable, and ethical sourcing and manufacturing practices. Our supplier, chosen through a meticulous selection process, meets strict criteria for quality, sustainability, and fair trade, holding both GOTS and OEKO-TEX certifications. We use 100% baby-safe, water-based Mimaki certified paint and nickel-free snaps. Additionally, all our packaging is 100% recyclable.
